Lesson learned from this morning’s house-fire run with FVFD.

Lesson learned from this morning’s house-fire run with FVFD. Always shoot to more than one memory card. Bad cards can ruin your day. (And I had really good pictures, too… they previewed fine in the camera, but now both the camera and the laptop think the card is empty.)

The memory card is the camera’s internal memory. It doesn’t store anything separately.

There are utilities that can scour the memory card and try to recover the contents. On a PC, Recuva is one of them. I don’t know about Mac tools, unfortunately.

I found one, and got about 2/3rds of my shots back, which was plenty for what I need to post for the department (and for our new guy, since it was his first fire). Definitely not how I had planned on spending my day yesterday, though!!

Glad you were able to recover a good number of them.

Me too, Mike! We don’t get fires that often (this is a good thing!!), so I would have been really bummed if I’d lost a full set of fire pictures.
