No, I’d already put shields on, and just wasn’t expecting it to be that stingy about coughing up keys.

I have a constant problem with stingy portals, so I don’t even start an operation until I have sufficient keys to finish it. Which is why I have such a pitiful few links & fields to my name. I’m obsessive about feeding things I own, so I have to have that one in my hip pocket too. And I am a recovering key collector. (Had over 1000 at one point; can’t hardly play at that level.) (Last time I tried that I had all the keys, 1 hour, drove out, and the Frog-owner was right behind me killing all the things I’d taken so I couldn’t field anyhow — and that was after 4 months of collecting keys.)

Yeah, for stuff that I’m intentionally fielding/layering, I collect the keys ahead of time too. This was a target of opportunity on a sunny Sunday afternoon (nice little nest of portals in a small, easily walkable park), so I did it the old-fashioned way and just walked laps until I had everything done. Except that one silly link (to finish two fields). Went back the next morning and both ends coughed up keys, so it was a 30-second stop on my way to work and done! (1000 keys? I can’t even… I thought I was bad w/ 400+.)
